In the 1850 land rush, Phineas Hook stakes his claim to land intended for a new town. He shoots the man who stakes the claim first, ensuring his control of the territory. This brutal act establishes Hook as a ruthless power broker in the Arapaho country.

Five years after the claim, Hook has built a corrupt stage-line empire. He dubs Frank Wilson’s son 'The Singing Kid' as part of his scheme, buys goods from Wilson, and arranges an ambush on Wilson’s wagon. Wilson is killed, the wagon is burned, and the money is stolen; Frank Jr. escapes with his life.

Ten years later, Frank Jr. returns as 'The Singing Kid' to settle scores with Hook. He interrupts a Hook stage operation and uses his singing persona to draw attention to the feud. He also frees three innocent men being lynched by Hook's men, and publicly challenges Hook's authority.

The Kid is drawn to Jen Coburn, a woman he met as a boy. He attends a social at the Coburn ranch and sings to impress her. Hook and his gang discover his identity and force him toward the marshal for arrest.

On the way to arrest, the Kid escapes and explains to Jen who he is and why he has returned. He vows to confront Hook and restore his father’s name. His escape deepens the feud and sets up the town for more trouble.

Jake Bannion, one of Hook’s men, tries to shoot the Kid but is captured by Curley, Little Casino, and Jose. They stage an escape on the Kid’s horse, which leads Hook to shoot Jake, thinking he has killed the Kid. The act escalates Hook’s violence and widens the circle of enemies.

Hook orders the marshal to pursue the Kid at Coburn’s ranch. Mr. Coburn explains Hook’s crimes— including killing the Kid’s father— but notes there is no solid evidence. The marshal’s loyalty becomes a focal point in the struggle for control of the town.

The trio Curley, Little Casino, and Jake pose as bounty hunters to deliver the Kid to Hook in exchange for the reward. When Simon Bannion arrives to seal the exchange, Hook shoots him dead, mistaken for the Kid. Hook immediately replaces him with another singing cowboy to continue the deception.

The Kid and Jose uncover Hook’s plot to rob the mail stage and pin the crime on him. The marshal, secretly aligned with the Kid, uses the information to turn Hook’s plans against him. The manipulation tightens Hook’s grip on the town’s fate.

Hook goes to report the Kid’s supposed crime, only to discover the Kid is already under the marshal’s custody. The marshal’s alliance with the Kid exposes Hook’s deception and sets a trap for the villain. Hook shoots the marshal in a brutal escalation and escapes.

The marshal frees the Kid and a chase ensues along the stage route. The Kid duels with the driver on the roof, and when the hitch disengages, the stage careens toward a ravine. The Kid narrowly escapes as Hook’s fate becomes sealed.

The stage plunges into a ravine with Hook inside, and he is killed in the crash. The town is freed from Hook’s corrupted reign, and the Kid’s acts of justice are finally realized.

With Hook dead, the Kid promises to return the stolen money to the town. He and Jen head toward California, and the pair share a final moment as he sings 'Underneath A Western Sky'.
