In Montevideo, Uruguay, the Old Christians Club rugby team suffers a heavy defeat in a match against their rivals. Despite the loss, the atmosphere in the dressing room remains light-hearted, with players excited about their upcoming match in Chile.

The rugby team boards a plane for their match in Chile, excited for the journey ahead. Among the 40 passengers are 19 team members, including notable players like Numa, Roberto, and Nando.

Midway through the flight, the atmosphere is joyful as passengers take photos and celebrate their adventure. However, the merriment soon turns to dread as they approach the Andes and encounter turbulent weather.

The pilots lose control of the aircraft while attempting a diversion to avoid the mountains, resulting in a catastrophic crash into the snowy Andes. The plane breaks apart on impact, claiming the lives of twelve passengers immediately.

With communications cut off and facing frigid temperatures, survivors huddle together for warmth, using the front half of the plane as shelter. They begin to clean out the wreckage while mourning the loss of their friends.

As days pass, the survivors endure harsh weather and injuries, with no food after supplies run out. They hear distant planes overhead but remain untraceable due to their remote location buried within the snow.

As starvation sets in, the group faces the horrifying necessity of cannibalism. After much debate and hesitation, they agree to use the bodies of their deceased friends to survive, overcoming their moral and religious objections.

Survivors continue to face extreme cold and dwindling hope as more of them succumb to injuries and weather. An avalanche hits, and the death toll rises further, leaving the remaining group to grapple with despair.

On the 36th day after the crash, a small group of survivors, including Roberto and Nando, embarks on a treacherous trek eastward, hoping to find help. Numa, however, is forced to turn back due to an injury.

The remaining men stumble upon the broken tail of the plane, which allows them to retrieve supplies. They continue to face harsh weather conditions as they attempt to salvage any means of communication.

After salvaging electronic parts, the survivors manage to set up a makeshift radio to attempt contacting the outside world. Unfortunately, they discover that rescue operations have been halted, deepening their despair.

As time drags on, more survivors perish, and the group faces the harsh reality of their situation. With limited options, they cling to hope, while the cold and hunger continue to torment them.

With winter passing and hope reignited, Roberto, Nando, and Tintin venture out once more towards the eastern peaks. They finally spot a valley that may lead to civilization, renewing their determination to survive.

After contacting a villager, Roberto and Nando manage to reach a nearby village, where they send messages for rescue. News of their survival spreads, and the remaining survivors prepare for their long-awaited rescue.

Survivors are finally rescued by helicopter after enduring seventy-two harrowing days in the Andes. Many find new faith in humanity, having shared an unbreakable bond through their struggle for survival.
