Sister Death

In 1939 Spain, a young girl is revered by the townsfolk for the appearance of holy visions. She becomes a beacon of faith and devotion in the community. This early reverence foreshadows the hidden histories that will surface later at the convent.

Ten years after, Narcisa arrives at a convent that has been reformed into a school for girls following the Red Terror. Sister Julia warmly greets her, and the Mother Superior is excited to have the 'holy girl' among them. Narcisa learns she will take over teaching duties previously held by Sister Inés.

In her new room, Narcisa discovers a cigar box containing letters, scissors, and a funerary photograph of Sister Socorro. The find hints at secrets buried beneath the convent’s holy façade. The discovery unsettles Narcisa and ties her presence to a painful past.

Narcisa begins to suffer horrific nightmares and inexplicable phenomena: a chair repeatedly falls on its own, an incomplete hangman drawing appears on the wall, and one of her students is scared just by Narcisa writing her name. The hauntings feel personal and increasingly menacing. She starts to question the nature of her gift and her place in the convent.

During confession, Narcisa admits insecurities about her supernatural gifts and her wavering faith. The moment deepens the tension between her experiences and the convent’s expectations. It sets up the conflict between personal truth and institutional control.

Two girls find the scissors from the cigar box in the bathroom and experience a supernatural encounter. Sister Julia dismisses their concerns and punishes Rosa for causing trouble. The incident brands the haunting as something the convent would rather ignore.

Narcisa visits Rosa in confinement for answers. Rosa explains that the convent is haunted by an entity they call 'the girl' and that if a name is written on the blackboard, the person is cursed. She also reveals why Sister Inés fled in fear years earlier.

Rosa’s name appears on the blackboard, and Narcisa seeks to communicate with the spirit. Together they complete the hangman drawing, and a presence seems to loom behind Narcisa. In a frightening moment, Narcisa experiences a confessional booth encounter and discovers Rosa hanged behind the lattice.

Sister Julia blames Narcisa for Rosa’s death, and Narcisa tries to leave the convent. She is caught under a solar eclipse, blinds her eyes, and she enters a trance where she witnesses the plunder and sexual violence the convent endured during the war.

Narcisa is returned to the convent for treatment, and in her room the spirit of Sister Socorro appears. Through visions, Narcisa learns that Socorro was raped during the war and conceived a daughter, whom the other nuns chose to keep hidden within the convent. The revelations begin to explain the haunting's persistence.

Socorro's daughter falls ill and is taken to a hospital, but the child dies; Socorro, realizing the truth could never be hidden, hangs herself in what would become Narcisa's room. The revelation triggers Socorro’s spirit to unleash vengeance, killing Sister Julia and the Mother Superior. The spirits of Socorro and her daughter reunite in the convent bathroom.

Decades later, the now-elderly Sister Narcisa is teaching a new class, earning the mockery of some as 'Sister Death'. The gentle, haunted presence remains as she encounters a new student, Verónica, suggesting the haunting lineage continues. The cycle of memory and haunting persists in the convent corridors.
