Consumed by guilt and anger, Bhaskar abandons his vocation and returns to his wife’s home, where Sudha and her brothers are killed with a sickle. He surrenders to the authorities and accepts a twenty-year prison sentence, a stark reckoning that mirrors Manja's confinement. The story closes on the cost of pursuing a forbidden love.
