As Japan confronts the turmoil of the late Edo period, an earnest young man enlists in the famed Shinsengumi, inspired by its charismatic leader and driven by a desire to live—and die—as a true samurai. Yet as he becomes deeper entrenched, the brutal realities of power clash with his idealized code, pushing him toward a deadly confrontation between duty and disillusionment.
