After the second Tokugawa shogun dies, it is discovered he was poisoned by retainers to advance his son Iemitsu, despite his stammer and birthmark. Iemitsu and his brother Tadanaga become bitter rivals, splitting the nation into war. Yagyu, obsessed with securing the shogunate for Iemitsu, betrays everyone, even his own family, to achieve his goal.
