Set between 1582 and 1594, the film opens with warlord Oda Nobunaga arriving at the Iga Ayanokuni shrine. When asked if he has eradicated all the ninja opposing him, he admits doubt. After a servant tests water and a page collapses, gunshots signal two ninja’s escape. Confirming his suspicion, Nobunaga orders the execution of captured ninja and vows to adopt even harsher methods. Later, daimyo Toyotomi Hideyoshi arrives to discuss the looming conflict.
