The Black Audio Film Collective’s seventh film presents a seven‑part visual study of Malcolm X’s life and death, narrated by novelist Toni Cade Bambara and actor Giancarlo Espesito. Its stylized tableaux vivants evoke early‑20th‑century funeral photography from James Van der Zee’s The Harlem Book of the Dead and the static, painterly cinematography of Sergei Parajanov’s The Colour of Pomegranates.
