Bhanu, Padmapriya Janakiraman, marries Rathnavel Kaildas, a railway worker and trained hockey player, hoping to build a steady life with him. He keeps two crucial secrets hidden: he is infertile and a recovering alcoholic. When a gynecologist confirms the infertility, the couple confronts a painful truth, and while some relatives push for a mutual divorce, Bhanu clings to a fragile hope by choosing to adopt a child to shield the marriage from breaking apart.

The baby’s arrival shifts the dynamic, but Rathnavel grows increasingly insecure, telling Bhanu that the child reminds him of his own weakness. Bhanu soon uncovers a deeper betrayal: her husband had known about his infertility and had concealed his alcoholism, a revelation that shatters trust and violence erupts. In a moment of anger, Rathnavel beats Bhanu, leaving her battered and terrified, and soon after she files for divorce, retreating to her parents’ home for a while.

Bhanu then meets Ravichandran, Prithviraj Sukumaran, a cheerful, free-spirited man who is a friend of her brother. He proposes, and they marry, seeking a new beginning away from the shadow of Rathnavel. Yet the past comes back with a vengeance when Rathnavel returns with a plan to wreck Bhanu’s life. He kidnaps her and places a cadaver in her home, then stages a cooking-gas cylinder explosion to mislead Ravi and his family into believing Bhanu has perished.

Rathnavel takes Bhanu to his secluded bungalow and locks her inside a soundproof room, cutting off any chance of rescue. Meanwhile, Ravi—aided by a trail of clues connected to life insurance papers—pins together the pieces of Bhanu’s disappearance. He distracts Rathnavel long enough to summon help, and the police arrive to free Bhanu. Rathnavel is ultimately confined to a mental asylum, where he later hangs himself.

The film presents itself as a true story from Andhra Pradesh in the late 1990s, with the real family still living in Kakinada. The narrative closes on a cautious, hopeful note as Ravi and Bhanu remain together, and Bhanu is shown pregnant, signaling a possible new chapter amid the trauma they endured.
