Set in Roman‑occupied Palestine, Salome—daughter of Herodias and niece‑stepdaughter of King Herod—becomes obsessed with the prophet John the Baptist, who denounces the royal family’s decadence and declares a new messiah is coming, heightening political and personal conflict within the court. (The film is presumed lost.)
