Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed

In the dawn of August 15, 1944, Allied paratroopers descend into German-occupied Provence under heavy fire. The drop marks the start of the mission, with Curtis and Rossi landing separately in the chaotic skies.

Curtis is spotted by a German patrol and quickly surrenders, a tense moment that contrasts with Rossi’s bold response. Rossi uses a grenade to distract their pursuers, then eliminates the guards and frees Curtis to escape the danger.

The two push forward through shelling and pursuit, searching for a safer route. They stumble upon an abandoned shelter that offers a temporary haven as the pursuit tightens.

As they press on, they encounter German Lieutenant Erich Neumann and his troops. In a moment of mercy, Rossi and Curtis spare Neumann rather than kill him, mirroring the restraint shown earlier by Sergeant Jones.

With their escape route uncertain, they decide to turn toward Les Arcs to aid a group of French Resistance prisoners. The detour is risky, but it promises to disrupt the German pursuit and support local resistance efforts.

Along the detour, they free three prisoners: Philippe, Gustave, and Jacques. The act strengthens their resolve and deepens their commitment to helping those still at risk, even as German forces close in.

They reach Les Arcs and spot a German Panzer III and a Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track full of infantry moving to strike. The trio and the resistance fighters brace for a clash as the danger of ambush grows nearer.

A brutal battle erupts to slow the German advance. Curtis is killed and Rossi is gravely wounded, forcing him to struggle to stay conscious and continue the mission.

In the aftermath of the fighting, Neumann, wounded himself, appears and guides Rossi to an abandoned farm. There, Neumann tends to Rossi’s wounds and shares a simple meal, creating a rare moment of humanity between enemies.

By the next morning, an American detachment finds Rossi alive and Neumann dead. The captured moment underscores the war's costs and the fragile mercy that connected the two sides.

Back at a military field hospital, Rossi learns that Sergeant Jones is alive but wounded, while Curtis has fallen. The news reinforces the toll of the mission and the personal losses among the soldiers.

The body of Neumann remains at the abandoned farm as a quiet monument to the mercy shown amid violence. The location becomes a memory of the fragile humanity that survived the clash, even as the war rages on elsewhere.
