Thirteen years pass and a pair of mysterious suicides jolts the city into action. The deaths are linked to a video played on personal devices, forewarned by a chilling murmur: 'You’re not the one' before each fatal moment. The investigation begins to reveal a digital curse that travels through screens.

Akane Ayukawa, a homeroom teacher, becomes involved as the case tightens around the deceased girl. She learns that the dead girl's best friend Risa had been investigating the cursed video even though it was said to be deleted. The clip features an eerie 'Error 404' and hints at a creator named Kashiwada.

Within the video, Kashiwada—the enigmatic online artist—appears as the architect of the scheme, and the clip depicts him being killed by a long-haired woman. This framing links the digital haunt to a person who may be pulling the strings behind the scenes. The mystery deepens as the online world collides with real-world danger.

The investigation tightens as the video begins to circle toward Akane. At home, screens flare to life with the image of the long-haired woman, and Akane is drawn into a vision of possession while Risa is assaulted. The ghost whispers that Akane is 'the one,' intensifying the peril.

Back at Kashiwada's apartment, detectives scan a wallpapered landscape that feels almost staged. The landlady Seiko Ozone notes that everything around them seems superficial, hinting that appearances mask something deeper.

Akane's backstory reveals she is telekinetic, having revealed her power years earlier during a high school attack, saving students but being branded a freak. This past fuels her resolve to confront the haunting and protect those around her.

As the threat escalates, Takanori Andō, the son of Mitsuo Andō, becomes Akane's devoted partner who understands and cherishes her abilities. Their partnership grows as they face the supernatural menace together.

The video and its haunting spread through the city as a chorus of screens invades homes. Akane and Takanori flee into the streets, but a colossal LCD delivery truck displays the ghost and snatches Takanori away.

Detective Koiso's skepticism yields to mounting evidence about the video’s origin. He returns to Kashiwada's world and discovers a hidden archive of notes that expose the deceit behind the online curse.

Koiso and Akane trace the source to the Yamamura household, once an inn and now a decrepit mall near the well. Approaching the well, they confront a grotesque Sadako facsimile that attacks Koiso, and the imperfect echoes descend on Akane.

In a ruined center, Akane learns that Takanori is trapped inside a mobile phone. A swarm of imperfect Sadako figures converges, but Akane's telekinetic power shatters them and lifts her to the roof to face the real Sadako. The two clash as Sadako merges with Akane in a dangerous fusion, yet Takanori destroys the phone and disrupts the binding mechanism, allowing Akane to escape as the roof collapses.

The world lingers in an air of artificiality, highlighted by the mid-credits line from the landlady: 'Isn’t it all artificial?' The post-credits sequence revisits the video’s opening with a new line: 'Here we go again,' signaling the cycle beginning anew.
