Vincenzo, a railway worker on the Rome‑Paris line, is married in Italy but maintains a mistress, Ginette, a French widow with a four‑year‑old daughter. When a job opportunity arises in Paris, he decides to move, only to have his wife and his petulant brother‑in‑law demand to accompany him. In Paris he must choose between his devoted wife and his French lover, deciding which woman will define his future.
