Rites of Passage

Nathan argues that society lacks a rite of passage for young men. He convinces Professor Nash to bring the class to his family ranch. The plan is to hold a spiritual sweat lodge ceremony over the ancient burial ground.

The anthropology class arrives at the ranch and meets Benny, Nathan's troubled brother living there alone. Benny is in the grip of drug addiction and proclaims himself a modern Shaman. He hints at shaping reality through ritual and drugs.

Benny shows a greenhouse where he grows plants for drug production and a plan to use the hallucinogens in the ceremony. He concentrates the compounds and discusses the intended ritual with the students. The group begins to sense an unsettling influence from Benny.

Delgado, a bald meth cook with a vendetta, arrives at the ranch and uses the glasshouse as part of his lab. He has laid bear traps around the area to guard his operation from intrusion. He harbors a personal grievance rooted in a car crash that killed his wife and daughter.

Before the main events, Benny goes into town in his pickup, playing a bear persona and seeking victims. He tells Delgado that he is going to meet his fiancée, a claim Delgado doubts. The two misgivings foreshadow the escalating danger.

Penelope is brought to Benny's shaman hideout and bound. She attempts to escape, but dies when she crashes into glass shards in Delgado's greenhouse. Her death reveals the deadly intersection of Benny's ritual plans with Delgado's dangerous lab.

Nathan's group relocates to a beach house further down from Benny's hideout and glasshouse. Dani starts to show interest in Benny, while Sandee and Carly join the circle. Mojo connects with the group, drawing them into the web of their new surroundings.

Squirell catches Benny spying on the group, triggering a confrontation. The clash escalates, and in Benny's garage a girl and her boyfriend are killed when a pile of items collapses on them. The deaths deepen the group's fear and confusion.

Delgado intensifies his assault on the students, isolating them one by one. He kills Carly, and Nash and another girl succumb to the hallucinogen overdose. The night grows chaotic as the survivors scramble for safety.

Delgado corners Mojo and Sandee in the glasshouse and attacks them with a shotgun. Sandee is killed amid the scramble, while Mojo barely escapes.

That night Benny secretly drugs the group's meals with hallucinogen to heighten the ritual's effect. Delgado's rampage continues as the group fights for survival. Benny abducts Dani and takes her to his shaman hideout.

Nathan tracks Benny's location and confronts Delgado, who shoots Benny. Nathan knocks Delgado down just as he aims at Dani. It is revealed that Dani killed Delgado's wife and daughter in a separate road accident.

Paramedics arrive to treat the survivors, and those alive are taken away. Delgado escapes into the night, vanishing from the scene. The morning aftermath leaves the group to process the horrific events and the revelation about Dani.
