In July 1976 at the Venice Biennale, performance artists Marina Abramović and Ulay presented a 58‑minute piece in which the naked collaborators began at opposite ends of a room, walked toward one another, made contact, and repeatedly collided, eventually causing Marina to fall. The encounter was captured by a fixed video camera focused on the point where their bodies met.
