Policarpo De Tappetti, a calligrapher serving the self‑styled Count Don César Pancarano de Rondò, longs for a promotion that never arrives. When César’s son Jerónimo falls for Policarpo’s daughter Celeste, Policarpo sees a chance to rise, while César despises the match. The plan collapses when Celeste chooses Mario Marquetti, a typist‑mechanic tutoring at Franquinet’s offices, thwarting both men’s ambitions.
