Jan 'Hunky' Horak, a midlife railroad dispatcher who mans Tank Stop 47, normally works week in and week out. He takes a Sunday off for the first time in a year, with his fill-in Steve switching in. At the carnival, a much younger blonde named Betty fixates on Hunky, seeing him as a way out of her money troubles.
