Savitri Rao, Padmini Kolhapure as a widow, hopes that her only son, Vishwas Rao, Shahid Kapoor will grow up to be a brave inspector, but Vishwas dreams of becoming an actor.

During a city chase, Vishwas is dressed as a police inspector for a photo shoot and meets Kajal, a social worker, Ileana D’Cruz who mistakes him for an officer and thanks him for helping catch the goons, while Vishwas plays along. The moment is sensational enough to land him in newspapers as an inspector, a detail Savitri happens to glimpse. She travels to Mumbai to see her dream unfold, and soon the circumstances force Vishwas to sustain his lie not only to Kajal but to his own mother.

While filming a movie, Savitri learns the truth about Vishwas’s so-called career. She faints, and at the hospital the doctor reveals that she needs an operation costing ₹1 million. Desperate, Vishwas agrees to work for Gundappa, the goon boss, to raise the money, agreeing to fetch a CD for them. As he escapes with the CD, the police catch him and he ends up shooting two officers by mistake. No longer able to deny his actions, he becomes a murderer and is pushed to join Gundappa’s gang.

Kajal, convinced Vishwas has truly gone astray, heads to the gang’s den with a small group and declares that she has come to marry Vishwas, hoping to rescue him. The move sows confusion and prompts Gundappa to back off, at least for the moment. Meanwhile, the kidnapped Joint Commissioner informs Savitri that Vishwas is not committing crimes but is actually working undercover for the police. Kajal later learns this from Savitri and heads to apologize to Vishwas, not realizing they’re being watched on CCTV; she inadvertently leaks details of his plans.

Vishwas and his allies manage to slip away, but Savitri and Kajal are captured by Napoleon, the top boss of Gundappa, Mukesh Tiwari. After a grueling confrontation with the gang, Vishwas hands Napoleon over to the authorities and declares his resolve to become a real police officer, turning the performative bravado of his earlier masquerade into genuine service. In the end, Savitri’s long-held dream comes true as her son embraces a true vocation in the line of duty.
