The movie begins with a young man purchasing a vintage car, inspired by his love for classic vehicles and a local landlord, Pannaiyar. Pannaiyar and his wife Chellamma are depicted as kind, responsible villagers who have introduced essential technologies like TV, radio, and telephones to their community. Shanmugam, a friend of Pannaiyar, brings his brand new Fiat Premier Padmini and entrusts it to Pannaiyar while he visits his pregnant daughter. Pannaiyar is thrilled and begins treating the car as a prized possession, appointing Murugesan as the driver and Peedai as the cleaner. The villagers frequently admire and seek rides in the car.

While helping at a funeral, Murugesan encounters and falls for Malarvizhi, a beautiful girl among the mourners. She reciprocates his feelings, and their budding love story begins, adding a romantic subplot to the narrative. The car also becomes a symbol of status and opportunity for the villagers.

On their wedding anniversary, Chellamma requests Pannaiyar to learn driving so they can visit the temple together. Although he begins lessons with Murugesan, progress is slow because Murugesan fears losing his job if Pannaiyar becomes too skilled. Pannaiyar’s determination grows despite initial difficulties.

Suddenly, Shanmugam's daughter visits with the news that her father has died. Pannaiyar, saddened by the loss, hands over Shanmugam’s car keys and documents, but she leaves the car as a memorial. This event marks a sentimental milestone for the family, deepening their connection to the vehicle.
