In the fraught twilight of the 1930s, Europe teeters on the edge of catastrophe. The looming presence of war casts long shadows over bustling streets, and in the heart of Czechoslovakia, Prague becomes a refuge for families fleeing a growing menace. The city’s cramped quarters and winter chill create a stark backdrop of desperation and endurance, a place where hope flickers amid uncertainty and the ordinary lives of strangers intersect in unexpected ways.

​Nicholas Winton, a young London stockbroker, lives a comparatively quiet life in the English suburbs with his wife ​Grete. Beneath the surface of their domestic routine, the world’s turmoil seeps in, stirring a restless curiosity in Nicholas that his paperwork can’t satisfy. When a chance encounter pulls him toward the crisis in Prague, he confronts a moral crossroads that challenges his sense of duty, compassion, and identity. At home, his mother ​Babi and his friend ​Martin provide both grounding and a sounding board, while a small circle of determined volunteers—among them ​Trevor Chadwick and ​Doreen Warriner—offers a glimpse of a larger, collective effort.
