Once Upon a Forest

A small group of animal students—Abigail the mouse, Edgar the mole, Russell the hedgehog, and Michelle—study under their uncle Cornelius in the sunlit meadow of Dapplewood. During a routine hike they stumble onto a road and witness misfortunes: a car nearly misses Russell, and a glass bottle is hurled from a window. Moments later a poison-gas truck careens toward them after the bottle breaks, skids off the road, and ruptures its tank, spreading toxic fumes through the forest.

The toxic fumes overwhelm Dapplewood and force the group to retreat. Abigail retrieves Michelle, who is rendered comatose, while Michelle's parents are found dead in the aftermath. Cornelius shares a painful past about gas pollution, setting the stakes for their mission to save her.

To save Michelle, Lung-wort and Eye-bright are required. With local plants destroyed by the disaster, the friends resolve to travel to a distant meadow and return with the antidotes in two days. The mission tests their courage and teamwork as they set off.
