The movie begins in 1983 with a tense and emotional moment in a hospital delivery room. Dr. Mathew Devasya anxiously waits outside, eagerly hoping for the safe arrival of his baby. When a nurse approaches with good news, she mistakenly reports that his newborn is a boy. However, a surprise twist occurs when she corrects herself, revealing that the baby is actually a girl. Mathew is overjoyed and thanks God, feeling grateful for his new daughter, whom he will name Pooja.

Fast forward to 1999, where we meet Pooja, now a lively fifteen-year-old girl with a tomboyish streak. She is in school, where she introduces us to her warm and caring parents: her father, a dedicated doctor who loves singing and recording his own songs, and her mother, a gentle college lecturer who adores cooking and sharing her culinary delights. Pooja’s close friends include Neetu, a flirtatious girl, and Donna, a passionate foodie, both of whom add flavor to her youthful adventures.

Pooja reminisces about her childhood days filled with rides on her motorbike and her friendship with Rachel, who makes and sells wine as her business. Rachel, whom Pooja considers her mentor and friend, often shares her wisdom, including advice on love and marriage. One poignant conversation involves Rachel telling Pooja that she can either marry the man she loves or learn to love a stranger through an arranged marriage, prompting Pooja to decide she must find true love herself.

Her choice lands her interest on Yardley, a charming and popular student. During a school trip, Yardley confesses his feelings for Pooja, stirring hope within her. However, the story takes a dramatic turn when Pooja witnesses a gang harassing girls at a waterpark, leading her to confront the thugs. Giri, a tall, silent protector, appears unexpectedly and rescues her. Her immediate attraction to Giri ignites, and she quickly rejects Yardley’s romantic advances, explaining that her feelings haven’t developed for him.

The narrative traces Pooja’s ongoing fascination with Giri, now a college graduate living a modest life as a part-time farmer and a Kung Fu master. She is determined to learn more about him, and through her cousin David, she discovers that Giri’s past includes a relationship with Julie, who’s now married to an American. She also hears from Rachel that Giri was once considered a suitable groom for her daughter Helen.

In 2000, on Giri’s birthday coinciding with Palm Sunday, Pooja plans to confess her feelings using a meaningful keychain. During their chance encounter at a temple, rain begins to fall, and seeking shelter, they find themselves alone. Pooja, gathering courage, intends to express her love but is abruptly cut off by Giri, who insists she’s too young and should concentrate on her studies. He advises her to focus on her future success, warning her that love can wait. Heartbroken, Pooja drops the keychain and departs into the rain crying.

Despite her heartbreak, Pooja diligently focuses on her education and secures a place in Kozhikode Medical College. At university, she maintains her friendship with Neethu and Anna, and befriends a young professor, Dr. Prasad Varkey. During her final year, she unexpectedly crosses paths with Giri again and confides her feelings to Dr. Prasad, who advises her that enough time has passed and she should pursue Giri if she still cares. Pooja even helps care for Giri’s mother when she’s hospitalized, deepening her connection to him.

Her persistent efforts seem to be paying off when Giri’s friend Thennal visits, sparking jealousy in Pooja—until she discovers Thennal is married. Pooja returns home to her parents’ house, where she continues supporting Giri’s social endeavors, like officiating community weddings, and even helps promote a book written by Giri’s mother. She begins to believe Giri has developed feelings for her, only to be shattered when she learns he is engaged to Sreelakshmi, an old friend from their childhood.

Further complications arise when David, Giri’s friend, betrays him in college, eloping with Sreelakshmi after seeking their help to run away with his love interest, Nazeema. Giri finds out through a letter that David’s elopement with Sreelakshmi was genuine, intensifying Giri’s sense of betrayal and heartbreak.

As time passes, Rachel hints to Pooja that she should re-approach Giri, and they both revisit the spot where Pooja first tried to confess her love. Giri finally admits that he has always loved her and had kept mementos like the keychain from their childhood to remind him. They marry soon after, and life seems to settle into happiness. Pooja shares that Dr. Prasad has married Anna, Neetu has wed Yardley, and Giri has opened his own Kung Fu academy, thriving in their new life together.

In the present, Pooja, Giri, and their young daughter visit her friend Anna. During a lively chat, Dr. Prasad inquires about their child’s name, to which Giri casually replies “Julie,” a nod to Giri’s past love and his ex-girlfriend. This action amuses Pooja and concludes the story with a reflection on men’s enduring memories of their first love, illustrating how the past continues to shape their hearts even years later.
