Gagan (Uttam Kumar) avoids social gatherings, while his wife Chitra (Sumitra Mukherjee) loves parties; when Chitra’s friend Lola invites her out, Gagan heads to the Kolkata Book Fair. Meanwhile, Savitri (Moushumi Chatterjee), sold by her uncle, escapes and seeks refuge in Gagan’s home. After Chitra discovers Savitri in his reading room, she retreats to her grandfather’s house, and with Abalakanta (Santosh Dutta), Gagan teaches Savitri etiquette and introduces her to society.
