In mid‑19th‑century St. Petersburg, the indolent middle‑aged Oblomov lives with his elderly servant Zakhar, spending most of his days sleeping and dreaming of his childhood estate. His energetic childhood friend Stolz, now a successful businessman, regularly draws him into his social circle and introduces him to the cultured Olga. When Stolz leaves for several months, Oblomov moves to a country house near Olga, who is determined to transform him into an active, cultured gentleman. Their deepening affection creates a love triangle that also involves Stolz.
