No Hard Feelings

The film opens with Gary, a tow truck driver, arriving at Maddie Barker’s house to tow her car. Maddie tries to persuade him to hold off, citing their past relationship, but ultimately fails. Her protests are interrupted by another man from her past who gropes her, complicating the situation.

After her failed attempt to stop Gary, Maddie tries to chase him down on rollerblades but is unsuccessful. She ends up on probation and learns she owes back taxes, putting her house at risk. She struggles with her current life circumstances, feeling increasingly trapped.

Maddie sees a job listing from a wealthy family seeking someone to 'date' their son in exchange for a Buick Regal. She decides to accept the job, motivated by her financial struggles and desire to exploit the rich. She meets the Becker family and begins her new role without revealing her true intentions.

Maddie is introduced to Percy, the awkward and shy son of the Becker family. The parents warn Maddie to keep their arrangement secret from Percy. She finds Percy working at a dog shelter, where she attempts to seduce him, but he becomes anxious and defensive.

Maddie and Percy go to a bar, where she introduces him to alcohol, and later they enjoy skinny dipping at the beach. Their outing is disrupted when drunk teens steal their clothes, leading Maddie to fight them off, illustrating her protective instincts.

Back at Maddie’s house, she notices a rash on Percy’s back, prompting her to help him open up about his childhood and insecurities. Percy shares his fears of being mocked for sleeping in his parents' bed, revealing his vulnerability to Maddie.

Maddie and Percy spend a day together, visiting an arcade and the lighthouse, where Percy confesses his feelings and shares a kiss. They discuss their backgrounds, with Maddie revealing her ties to Montauk and her reasons for staying.

Percy and Maddie have dinner at a fancy restaurant, followed by a prom-like party where Percy performs piano. His drinking and a kiss with Natalie, a classmate, highlight his growing independence. Maddie’s concerns deepen as she witnesses his risky behavior.

Percy rejects Princeton, announcing he wants to stay close to Maddie, but overhears their private conversation about him. This leads to heartbreak when he confesses his feelings, but their relationship hits a major crisis after Percy finds Maddie planning to leave.

Percy intentionally crashes Maddie’s car into a tree and in a moment of confusion, they attempt to have sex, but Percy ejaculates prematurely. He then withdraws emotionally, telling Maddie she will end up stuck in Montauk, reinforcing their emotional distance.

Maddie finally manages to pay her taxes and fix her car with the help of Jim and Sara, who reveal they are moving to Florida for their family. Maddie decides to sell her house, transferring ownership to Jim and Sara to start anew.

Maddie tracks Percy to a Princeton mixer, attempting to reconcile and explain herself. Percy refuses to speak to her, leading her to hop on the hood of his car as he drives away. They drive to the beach, where Maddie catches fire at a barbecue and they tearfully reconcile.

Percy prepares to leave for Princeton, and Maddie drives him there, revealing she adopted Milo, the police dog, as a sign of her moving forward. They part on good terms, with Percy expressing happiness for Maddie’s future and reaffirming their connection.
