Seven years earlier, Celil, the family's only son, returns from military service to a joyous home where his sister Delal has just married Nazif and given birth to a daughter. During a picnic Delal notices Celil’s interest in the neighbour’s girl Heda, takes her along to separate them, but Celil and Heda step on a landmine and die. Overcome by guilt, Delal later commits suicide. Seven years on, Heda is married to Nazif, raising their child and expecting another. The family believes the new baby will be a boy, while Nazif neglects his wife for his lover Defne. Meanwhile, Heda’s mother Cemile struggles with an unseen crisis.
