Gao Yuan was involved in developing China's first atomic bomb in the 1960s when a workplace radiation mishap occurred, exposing him to dangerous levels of radiation. This accident forced him to take an unexpected leave orfurlough from work. It was during this unplanned time off that he was able to reunite with his long-lost love on a bus ride.

In 1984 Shanghai, young Dong Dong faced a heart-wrenching dilemma when he had to choose between saying goodbye to his crush and helping the neighborhood celebrate the Chinese women's national volleyball team's Olympic gold medal victory. Dong Dong chose to prioritize the community celebration, deciding to forgo the chance to say goodbye to his crush. This selfless act exemplified youthful sacrifice and the strength of community bonds during a moment of national pride.

During the 1997 Hong Kong handover ceremony, there was a notorious 12-second silence that occurred between the British and Chinese national anthems. This moment became a powerful and moving symbol of the historical transition from British rule to Chinese sovereignty, carrying immense cultural and emotional significance for both nations.

In 2008, a taxi driver in Beijing made a selfless decision to gift his coveted ticket to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics to a young boy from the Sichuan earthquake zone who had attempted to snatch it. This act of generosity was driven by redemption and compassion, as the driver wanted to give the boy, who had experienced tremendous trauma in the earthquake, a moment of hope and joy through witnessing the historic Olympic ceremony.

On November 18, 2016, two homeless brothers experienced a monumental moment when they witnessed the landing of the Shenzhou 11 crewed spacecraft. This extraordinary event, far beyond their difficult circumstances, resonated deeply within them and evoked a profound sense of belonging and collective hope. The experience transcended their challenging lives, giving them a glimpse of something greater and restoring their faith in possibility.

Lü Xiaoran was an exemplary female fighter jet pilot who led her team in orchestrating an impeccable aerial display at the Military Parade commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the Second Sino-Japanese War. Rather than flying in the celebration herself, she served as a leader and coordinator, ensuring the team's performance was flawless while supporting her fellow aviators.

During his radiation-related leave, Gao Yuan took a bus ride where he unexpectedly reunited with a long-lost love. Their emotional connection reignited cherished memories from the past, offering a poignant moment of personal solace amid his demanding scientific work. However, their heartfelt reunion was abruptly disrupted by the jubilant sounds of a parade celebrating China's successful atomic test, symbolizing how national achievements often overshadowed personal lives during that era.

The film consists of seven separate vignettes directed by different filmmakers, each depicting a significant historical moment in modern Chinese history from 1949 to 2016. While each story features different characters and events, they are unified by a common patriotic theme and explore the spirit of perseverance, sacrifice, and national pride across different generations of Chinese people.

The young boy from the Sichuan earthquake zone had experienced tremendous trauma from the devastating 2008 earthquake that hit Sichuan province. When he attempted to snatch the taxi driver's Olympics ticket, the driver was moved by the boy's situation and decided to give him the ticket as an act of kindness, allowing the earthquake survivor to find hope and joy by witnessing the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
