My Life Is on the Line

Fong Chin, known in the kung fu world as Minute Fong, can defeat or kill an opponent in under a minute using his father's gold watch as a timing cue. His unrivaled speed and accuracy earn him a chilling reputation, making him a sought-after hitman and a feared target. The legend around him grows with every fast finish.

A low-life plots to have Fong Chin killed to cover up murdering his own father and other crimes. Fong retaliates with a swift demonstration of his skill, killing the would-be killer and his henchmen in under a minute. The foiled plan cements his fearsome reputation and makes him even more of a target.

A flashback reveals that as a child, Fong witnessed his parents' murder at the hands of bandits. The memory fuels his complex code of justice and explains his reluctance to abandon his lethal talents. It also explains why he prizes the watch as a reminder of those losses.

Fong's brother challenges his line of work, urging him to give up fighting and killing. Fong defends his actions, insisting he only harms those who deserve it. The clash reveals a rift between family loyalty and a life built on bloodshed.

Ying Ying, Fong's prostitute girlfriend, longs for a normal life with him. He initially rejects the idea and leaves after dealing with two men who threaten her. When he later returns, he discovers she has poisoned herself.

Chow Sau-tung presses Fong to stay in the game, even as more fighters, including a corrupt police officer, are hired to pressure him. Chow hints at a future payout if Fong takes on one more assignment. The underworld's strings tighten around him.

Chow promises wealth for one final job: to kill a man named Lai in a designated town. Fong accepts, convinced this will be his last kill. He knows the town is full of men named Lai, so he must seek out the right target with care.

While staying in the town, Fong befriends a mischievous but good-hearted local boy who looks for a father figure. He meets the boy's widowed mother, Chu Hua, and agrees to teach the boy kung fu on the condition that he attends school. The budding master-student bond begins to reshape his days there.

Chu Hua initially blames martial arts for her husband's death, and resists Fong's influence. Over time she softens and opens to the idea of training her son. The growing bond between Fong, Chu Hua, and the boy deepens as Mr. Lai's suspicion about the watch lingers.

Fong becomes lax about completing the Lai assignment as his life in the town grows more ordinary. Chow's henchmen escalate their pressure, giving him three days to finish the job. The shift in priorities tightens the impending deadline.

When Fong finally confronts Mr. Lai, Lai's grandson intervenes and is accidentally killed by Fong in the ensuing struggle. The boy dies in his mother's and grandfather's arms, sending the family into shock and mourning. Fong's heart breaks as he realizes the human cost of his mission.

The next morning Chow Sau-tung's henchmen finish the job, and the entire family is dead. Chu Hua is raped before being murdered, and Mr. Lai has also fallen to the violence. The massacre leaves Fong devastated and furious.

Distraught, Fong returns to his brother, who scolds him and reveals that Mr. Lai was innocent and Chow's plan was to wipe out Lai's family as payback. Realizing Chow lied to him, Fong vows revenge and starts tracking Chow Sau-tung and his henchmen.

Fong's pursuit of revenge pits him directly against Chow Sau-tung as he hunts down the killer and his associates. The chase marks a turning point as he moves from guilt to vengeance, determined to end Chow's corrupt scheme once and for all.
