Rudolf Hrusinsky, a shy clerk, loves fellow clerk Květá Fiolová, urged by his superior. In flashback he attempts suicide by gassing his bathtub. The “Murder” is the imagined killing he plotted after learning his wife’s affair with his trusted friend. Lost in visions of his funeral and mourners, he aborts the suicide and imagines a better future.
