Three years into a marriage in Los Angeles, Nicholas and Ellen survive a plane crash in the South Pacific; Ellen is swept off a lifeboat and presumed dead. Five years later, Nicholas has her declared dead and plans to marry Bianca, returning to his honeymoon resort. The Navy brings a rescued Ellen to L.A.; she demands secrecy and to face Nicholas.
