Ethan Hunt is captured by Solomon Lane, a key operative of the Syndicate, who traps him in a gas chamber. With the clock ticking and his life in grave danger, Ethan's escape is orchestrated thanks to the unexpected arrival of MI6 agent Ilsa Faust.

CIA director Alan Hunley presents a case against the IMF before a Senate oversight committee, arguing for its disbandment due to alleged reckless actions that have compromised national security. IMF agent William Brandt fiercely defends their methods, but the committee ultimately decides to disband the agency.

With the IMF dismantled and no one to turn to, Ethan follows his only lead: a mysterious blond man in glasses. Despite his claims, Hunley dismisses his concerns about the Syndicate as imaginary, leaving Ethan increasingly isolated.
