The film begins by introducing two brothers, Damian and Anthony, who have opposing personalities. While Anthony is driven by greed and the need for recognition, Damian is influenced by their late mother's legacy of good deeds and secretly believes she was a saint.

After moving to a new housing development, Damian finds joy in constructing a cardboard fort. His innocent playtime takes an unexpected turn when a duffel bag filled with cash crashes into his fort, seemingly dropped from the heavens as a fast train zooms by.

When Anthony discovers the duffel bag filled with money, he presents it to Damian, who interprets their fortune as a miraculous blessing from their mother. This unexpected windfall sets the stage for the brothers' diverging paths with the cash.

With their newfound wealth, Anthony quickly spends the money on luxury items to gain status among his peers at school. In contrast, Damian chooses to make a positive impact by treating the homeless to pizza, reflecting his altruistic nature.

While out one afternoon, Damian notices a homeless man rummaging through trash by the train tracks. Eager to help, he runs home for money, but Anthony intervenes, opting to give the man a jar of coins instead, launching into a lecture about Damian's recklessness.

As the UK prepares to change currency from pounds to Euros, the urgency increases for the boys to deposit their cash. They attempt to go to a bank but find themselves at a dead end due to the absence of an adult, leaving them uncertain about their next steps.

In a twist, Dorothy visits their school promoting a donation drive for well-building in Africa. Damian inadvertently donates 1,000 pounds via her remote-controlled 'bin,' further complicating their situation as they struggle to explain their sudden wealth.

Amid the chaos, Anthony learns from a classmate about a train heist involving old pound notes scheduled for destruction. This revelation makes Damian realize that the source of their fortune may not be as innocent as he had hoped.

When their father is briefed about the donation, he questions the boys along with Dorothy. Anthony quickly devises a story about receiving money from Mormons in the neighborhood, trying to divert suspicion from their true source of wealth.

During a Christmas play performance, Damian spots the homeless man he had encountered earlier. Overwhelmed with guilt and concern, he flees the stage with the cash, seeking refuge in their previous home to confess the truth to their father.

Upon returning home, the brothers discover their house has been ransacked, likely by the homeless man. Despite Damian's objections to using the remaining money for themselves, their father decides to spend what little they have left.

That night, Damian is visited in a dream by the 'poor man,' who reassures him that he will return. This profound dream impacts Damian, confirming his struggle between right and wrong regarding the money.

The next morning, the family exchanges their pounds for Euros with Dorothy's assistance. While celebrating, Anthony's jealousy grows over Dorothy's bond with their father, which strains the brothers' relationship further.

Feeling disoriented and pressured, Damian decides to take the remaining cash to the train tracks. In a symbolic gesture of closure, he burns the money as the train approaches, signifying his internal conflict regarding their ill-gotten gains.

As the train rushes by, Damian sees a woman he instinctively recognizes as his mother. This fleeting moment of connection reveals that she has achieved sainthood, affirming that her blessings are embodied in her son's moral decisions.
