Mikes, a naïve young man, hopes to solve his financial problems by marrying a rich bride. After several match‑making attempts he meets an equally naïve but wealthy woman, and their arrangement turns into genuine love. Her father insists Mikes must find a job; when his business fails, he considers theft, but the father relents and gives his blessing.
