Mere Jeevan Saathi

Seth Govindram, a rich father, challenges his son Prakash to earn his one-time meal from his profession. Prakash accepts and leaves home to make his own way as an artist. He tries to sell his paintings but fails.

Princess Kamini, a playgirl, spots Prakash and pulls him into the glamour world. She influences his art, and he adapts his style to meet modern tastes. Despite the changes, his core nature remains altruistic.

Jyoti, an eye doctor from London, arrives in Bombay and meets Prakash. Though he starts as a gifted painter, his playboy image draws her attention before love deepens. They become lovers, but his past begins to complicate the relationship.

Kamini visits Prakash’s house drunk and flirts with him. Jyoti arrives and finds them together, furious and heartbroken. Prakash insults Kamini and sends her away; Jyoti initially spurns his attempts to reconcile, but he feigns a suicide and reveals the truth about Kamini, leading to a rekindled bond.

Prakash proposes marriage to Jyoti. Jyoti's father, Nazir Hussain, initially rejects Prakash's paintings and the match, bribed away by his dislike of his art. However, after witnessing Prakash’s altruism in action, he apologizes, and they begin planning the wedding.

Prakash has a car accident, and Kamini finds him and takes him back to her palace where he becomes her prisoner. Jyoti receives a telegram informing her of Prakash's death, and she and her father mourn. The switch from romance to captivity marks a dark turn.

The bandages are removed, and Prakash discovers he is blind. Kamini tortures him and vows to behead him, using his vulnerability to tighten her hold. Jyoti is left heartbroken, and Captain Vinod begins to appear as a possible ally.

Captain Vinod starts wooing Jyoti, buying her gifts and echoing Prakash's lines about love. This parallel heightens Jyoti's emotional turmoil as she remembers Prakash even as she contemplates Vinod’s proposal.

Kamini takes Prakash on a hunting-like ride, and during the pursuit, she falls off a mountain and dies. Prakash escapes and makes his way to the road.

Captain Vinod finds Prakash and brings him to his family home. There, Prakash learns that his father died a month ago and that the home has a new occupant. The recovery begins with Vinod's family caring for him.

Jyoti agrees to marry Vinod after pressure from Vinod's parents. The engagement party is held, and Prakash attends, performing a song that moves Jyoti to tears.

Prakash and Jyoti reconcile, and Prakash undergoes eye surgery performed by Jyoti. He expresses that he wants to love her as a normal man, not as an invalid, deepening their bond. Vinod overhears this, and a tension builds between the two men.

A confrontation ensues as Vinod struggles with jealousy and the truth of Prakash’s feelings comes to light. Vinod's father shoots Vinod in the leg to prevent violence, and in the aftermath Prakash and Jyoti marry, sealing their future together.
