Mera Naam Shaji

The film follows three men named Shaji from different corners of Kerala: Shaji George Asif Ali from Kochi, Shaji Usman Soubin Shahir from Kozhikode, and Shaji Sukumaran Baiju Santhosh from Thiruvananthapuram, each living a markedly different life yet bound by coincidence and circumstance. Shaji Usman, a contract killer, accepts dangerous jobs to support his family, and his unsettling method—the stabbing of people in the buttocks—sets the tone for a world where violence hides behind everyday routines. When a hit is commissioned on Dominic, a prominent party leader in Kochi, the plot threads begin to weave together in tense and comic ways.

Shaji Usman drives much of the early tension: after accepting a deadly assignment, he travels to Kochi, executes the attack on Dominic, and vanishes before anyone can fully process what happened. He then communicates with an informer, tears his SIM card from the scene, and discards it by throwing it off a bridge, aiming to erase his tracks. The discarded card lands in Kunthishan’s glass, and Kunthishan Dharmajan Bolgatty unknowingly becomes a crucial, if unwitting, piece of the puzzle. Across town, Shaji George Asif Ali and Kunthishan receive odd calls that hint at a reward—5 lakhs promised the following day—yet the real mastermind remains hidden, manipulating events from behind the scenes. The confusion intensifies when the same number reaches Shaji George, who, while intoxicated, accepts the promise without understanding the true stakes.

As the mystery unfolds, GK, Dominic’s right-hand man, takes center stage as the person behind the attack’s reward scheme. The trio begins to peel back the layers of deception: who is trying to cash in on the chaos, and why? The revelation lands with a jolt when the team discovers that the informer’s signal has created a tangled chain of miscommunications that could cost them dearly. In a tense sequence, Kunthishan eyes the new SIM card and unintentionally becomes the inadvertent conduit for further peril, as Shaji Usman circles closer to his target and a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ramps up.

Meanwhile, Shaji Sukumaran [Baiju Santhosh] finds himself drawn into a separate thread of the narrative through Neenu Thomas [Nikhila Vimal], with whom Shaji George shared a complicated past. A flashback reveals a budding romance between Neenu and her neighbor Shaji, a relationship that her wary father initially resists. Dominic, wary of losing influence, schemes to send Shaji away to Nagercoil to break the couple apart, a plan that is revealed to Shaji Sukumaran and Jancy [Asha Aravind], Dominic’s wife, in a twist that exposes the cruelty of manipulation. The emotional core of the story centers on Neenu’s perilous life after marriage: her husband Jerome proves to be controlling and predatory, repeatedly attempting to hurt her, while she finds a fragile ally in Shaji George.

The present-day chapters pivot around Shaji George’s protective instincts and Shaji Sukumaran’s willingness to stand by him. Neenu’s plight catalyzes a confrontation where Shaji George fights Jerome and his friends, despite taking blows himself. In a moment of comic relief, Shaji Usman’s instructions collide with Shaji George’s calls, producing a surreal, almost farcical dialogue as the trio navigates the chaos. The stakes escalate when Jerome and Aby drive toward a seaport in a separate vehicle, causing a chain of crashes that bring the action to a head. Shaji Usman arrives on the scene with speed and heroism, engaging in a brutal confrontation that leaves Jerome and Aby overwhelmed, while Neenu escapes with the aid of Diana.

With Neenu rescued, the three Shajis converge at Advocate Lawrence’s hotel room to resolve the fallout. Lawrence Sreenivasan helps coordinate the legal aftermath, and the film ties up several loose ends: Neenu and Shaji George reunite, Lawrence ensures that public and private troubles are managed, and Shaji Usman’s payout is settled. The trio, including Shaji Sukumaran, drives toward a new sense of closure, punctuated by one final, humorous phone exchange with Shaji Usman that leaves a lingering sense of the film’s odd camaraderie.

In the closing moments, Shaji Usman discards his SIM card once more, and the device is recovered by two drinkers under a bridge. As they talk, a familiar voice calls out for “Shaji,” and a second man named Shaji answers, setting the stage for a new cycle of miscommunication and unresolved tension. The credits begin to roll as the audience is left with a sense that the story of these three Shajis—tangled by fate, loyalty, and a touch of fate—will continue to echo beyond the screen.
