Megalomaniac

In the film’s final act the fragile façade that Martha has built finally collapses. While she is away, her caseworker Madame Connecci breaks into the decrepit house and discovers the mute captive Julie. Connecci’s attempt to free the girl triggers a violent reaction: Félix bursts from his hidden “room,” restrains the visitor, and Martha brutally murders her, displaying a sudden, feral rage toward anyone probing her mental state.

When Julie manages to flee, Félix pursues her, dragging her back to the house despite her belief that she has escaped. Meanwhile, Martha has invited three of her workplace tormentors—Luc, Jérôme, and L’ouvrier—to a dinner she promises as a gesture of reconciliation. The siblings have secretly poisoned the meal, weakening the men enough to finish them off with blunt force. The attack is chaotic; Félix is injured in the struggle, and the trio’s plan unravels as the poison’s effects arrive too late.

At the same moment the bloodshed peaks, Martha goes into labor. The birth is presented in a stark, almost ceremonial tableau: she cradles the newborn while the specter of her own father flickers in the background, linking the new life to the horrific legacy that birthed her. Félix, exhausted and blood‑soaked, slumps beside her, and the mute Julie watches from the sofa, a silent witness to the cycle repeating itself.

The closing image—Martha holding her child under the shadow of her father’s ghost—underscores the film’s central idea that the violence of the previous generation is perpetuated anew. Unless this lineage is broken, the siblings’ twisted inheritance will continue to claim more victims.
