Meeting Evil

John Felton, a mild-mannered real estate agent in Orly County, faces a personal crisis after being fired from his job. His situation worsens with a foreclosure notice on his house, illustrating mounting financial and emotional stress. That evening, he finds a surprise birthday party prepared by his wife Joanie and children, which contrasts his growing desperation.

John observes the slow progress of the swimming pool being dug in his backyard while contemplating his bleak future. He stands by the construction site, lost in thought, symbolizing his feelings of stagnation and hopelessness. His demeanor hints at deeper troubles brewing beneath the surface.

A man calling himself Richie arrives at John's house, claiming his stalled car needs a push. Richie is dressed in a suit and fedora, and his peculiar behavior sparks John's suspicion. The interaction introduces Richie as a mysterious and potentially dangerous character, setting the tone for upcoming violence.

While pushing Richie's stalled car, it backfires, injuring John's knee. Richie then attempts to conceal a revolver from his trunk, creating an ominous atmosphere. He offers to take John to the hospital, but properties of deception emerge as John leaves his wallet and phone behind, hinting at trouble ahead.

At a bar, John notices Richie whistling Dixie and engages in conversation, questioning Richie's strange mannerisms. Meanwhile, John attempts to contact Joanie without success, highlighting his isolation. The bar scene introduces key characters: Trevor, who fired John, and Tammy, John's former mistress.

Police arrive as Richie suggests they leave the bar, and John, Tammy, and Richie depart in Tammy’s car. They are forced to stop when harassed by a trucker, who wrongly suspects John of Rhonda's murder. Richie kills the trucker in a sudden act of violence, revealing his murderous nature.

Authorities, led by detectives Frank and Latisha, suspect John of the trucker’s murder, and he is arrested. Tammy later confirms Richie's guilt, clearing John’s name. Despite this, the police believe Richie was killed at the diner, leaving John under suspicion and in a dangerous situation.

John is released and returns home to his family, only to discover Richie waiting there. Richie reveals that Joanie had hired him to kill John for insurance money, confirming her infidelity. A violent confrontation ensues, with Joanie attacking John, and he fighting back to protect himself and his family.

Joanie, John, and Richie crash through a window and fall into the flooded pool hole during their struggle. Latisha arrives and shoots Richie, ending his rampage. The confrontation reaches its climax with violence and chaos, threatening the lives of the Felton family.

Later that night, Joanie and John lie in bed, with Joanie asking if everything will be okay. John remains silent, turning off his light and ominously whistling Dixie, mirroring Richie's earlier behavior, leaving an ambiguous sense of whether peace has returned or danger persists.
