Rogers Henry, a nuclear scientist angry that his wife Vivian left and his research funding was cut, builds Medusa—a thermonuclear bomb that can create a continent‑wide electromagnetic pulse to cripple a computer‑dependent society. He dupes Vivian into taking it to the Pentagon, rigging it to explode if her pacemaker isn’t within fifteen feet, and it arms aboard Scott Nash’s 737 cargo plane as Hurricane Sigrid approaches, so no one wants the plane to land.
