From a distance, Julio repeatedly passes by a peculiar building at the corner of Ongpin and Misericordia, a symbol of the unfamiliar metropolis. The sight sparks a quiet fascination about what life in the city holds. This curiosity foreshadows his later encounters with Manila's hidden sides.

Julio finds work in construction to survive the urban grind. He befriends Atong, a coworker who was hired about five weeks earlier and shares the daily struggles on site. The two men form a tentative bond as they navigate tough conditions.
