However, the sepoys discovered the grease was indeed pig fat and beef tallow at Kent's factory, confirming their fears and fueling rebellion.

Earlier, Nainsukh teases Pandey about using the gun, hinting at the religious controversy to come.

Pandey first encounters Heera when he rescues her from Captain Hewson's assault at a brothel run by Lol Bibi. Despite the social boundaries of caste and class, a sepoy and a tawaif, they begin to fall in love. Their relationship represents a connection that crosses societal divisions. On the night before his execution, Heera visits Pandey in his cell and asks him to place sindoor on her forehead, symbolizing their union in marriage, making their bond official despite his impending death.

General Anson, the Commander-in-Chief, ordered the Queen's Regiment from Rangoon to intercept and suppress the rebels, with arrival planned for April 1, 1857. However, Heera learned of this plan after spending a night with Hewson and warned Pandey. The mutineers then adjusted their timetable, deciding to march on March 30 instead, before the Queen's Regiment could arrive. This forced the British to respond with whatever forces were immediately available.

Gordon intervenes to stop a Sati ceremony, in which a widow would have been forced to burn herself on her husband's funeral pyre. He rescues a widow named Jwala and arranges for her medical care. This act demonstrates Gordon's growing connection to Indian lives and his discomfort with British brutality, foreshadowing his later friendship with Pandey and his deep personal conflict over the treatment of Indians under Company rule.

Heera learns about the British plan to deploy the Queen's Regiment from Rangoon after spending a night with Captain Hewson. Through this encounter, she overhears crucial military information that she passes on to Pandey.
