Based on a real Meiji‑era performer, the film follows Tochuken’s artistic collaboration with his wife, portrayed by Chikako Hosokawa, who accompanies his songs and recitations on shamisen. It also depicts his affair with a geisha, played by Sachiko Chiba, and the gradual breakdown of both his professional partnership and marriage.
