Set in early‑Showa Osaka, the film follows a couple—a spoiled son and a practical girl—struggling with love. It won Blue Ribbon awards for best director, best actor (Morishige) and best actress (Awashima), and a Mainichi Concours for best actor and best screenplay (Yasumi Toshio). It placed second on Kinema Junpō’s top‑ten, after Naruse’s Ukigumo.
