Vasanth, Prashanth, is a post-graduate student and the son of the wealthy MP Gajapathy. Gajapathy is a senior leader in a religion-based National party and takes a hard line against inter-faith marriage. Vasanth leads a carefree, urban life in Chennai, enjoying friendships, studies, and the city’s rhythms, until a spontaneous act of courage draws him toward a mysterious young woman.

That meeting occurs when he and a stranger rush to rescue a baby teetering on a railway track. The moment leaves an impression on him, and soon he encounters the same girl again at his college. Heena, Rinke Khanna, is a Bengali girl whose father was a Tamilian, and she has come to Chennai for an exchange program. Their growing attraction is eased by a shared sense of humor and a spark that makes Vasanth reassess the quiet life he has known. Heena’s presence also intensifies the tension around his father’s political world, where inter-faith relationships are a sensitive, volatile issue.

Meanwhile, a group of terrorists hatches a plan to assassinate MP Gajapathy with a bombing at a public gathering. Heena, who was on an educational trip to Chennai, visits a bookshop to borrow a few titles. When a book is unavailable, she jokes about her watch’s alarm sounding like a bomb that could destroy a two-kilometer radius—a quip that the shopkeeper treats as harmless, but which will soon be misread as evidence against her. The bomb goes off at a rally, and though Gajapathy is only wounded, the incident sets off a swift, suspicious search for the woman who seems connected to the attack. In the midst of this chaos, Vasanth stumbles upon a terrorist’s bag with hidden bombs after striking one of the assailants.
