Magic Candies

Dong-Dong, a young, friendless boy who loves marbles, tries to buy more marbles but ends up purchasing round candies. He takes one home and samples it, beginning a strange journey that hints at hidden powers. The candy seems to respond to his voice while it is still in his mouth.

The first candy, patterned like the couch in the family living room, lets Dong-Dong communicate aloud only while the candy remains in his mouth. The couch asks him to retrieve the remote and to tell his father to stop farting on it so much. Dong-Dong agrees, and a strange sense of companionship blooms.

After the couch candy disappears, Dong-Dong realizes the candies are magical. He learns that their power depends on him keeping them in his mouth to speak through objects. This moment marks the start of a new understanding about his gifts.

The next candy, patterned after his dog Gusuri, lets him ask why Gusuri no longer enjoys playing with him. Gusuri explains that he is an older dog who now prefers quieter activities, but he still loves Dong-Dong and remembers their puppy days. Their conversation reassures Dong-Dong and reminds him of their bond.

Before the candy ends, Gusuri uses their final moments of communication to urge Dong-Dong to make friends and not worry about him. The message sinks in, giving Dong-Dong a new motivation to reach out beyond his own world.

Dong-Dong’s strict father returns home, bringing a tense, rule-filled air to the house. In a moment of mischief, Dong-Dong eats a candy connected to his father, feeling a strange link between them.

As the candy works, Dong-Dong hears his father’s affectionate thoughts toward him and experiences a warmth he seldom feels. The magical moment softens his attitude toward his father and invites him to respond with love.

On the next day, while doing homework, he tastes a bubblegum candy that floats out the window and returns with the voice of his late grandmother. She is happy in the afterlife, meeting old friends and watching over him. She urges him to make friends of his own, and he stores the gum under his desk so he can speak to her whenever he likes.

The grandmother’s voice reinforces the idea that it’s time for Dong-Dong to build his own circle of friends rather than rely on magical conversations. The candy helps him feel supported in taking steps toward making real connections.

The next piece of candy leads him outside, where he hears the voices of leaves happily wishing each other goodbye as they fall from the trees. The voices make him feel the world is alive, and he becomes more attuned to his surroundings. This experience primes him to seek real friendships.

The final piece of candy is clear and flavorless, and Dong-Dong decides to create his own voice for it so he can talk to others. He asks a boy nearby if he wants to play, and the boy agrees, signaling the start of a genuine friendship.
