The boy escapes to America, beginning a long, perilous journey toward becoming a mafia power.

The narrative shows Vincenzo growing up in America, marrying, and wrestling with poverty. Through determination and an appetite for control, he eventually forges his destiny as a mafia boss. This backstory anchors the broader family saga that informs Tony's world.

Tony returns from the Korean War and brings his idealistic Protestant girlfriend, Diane, to meet his family at his big brother Joey's wedding reception. The mood is festive, but rivalries simmer beneath the surface as the clan's power dynamics unfold.
