A gypsy cursed by her father must abandon her illegitimate son, giving him to a childless wealthy lady. He grows into an ambitious politician seeking the foreign‑minister post, unaware his mother is the famed fortuneteller Madame de Thebes, who all politicians consult. A rival learns this secret and plots to ruin his career, while the rival’s attractive daughter is attacked and rescued. The film is noted for striking images despite a poor print, and Ragna Wettergreen gives a haunting, melodramatic performance as Madame de Thebes.
