Les Vengeances de Maître Poutifard

Robert Poutifard, a primary school teacher, is bullied by his pupils, and his life changes when he meets Claudine Haignerelle, a teacher from Quebec who has just joined his school; Claudine is played by Jennie-Anne Walker. The pair size up each other with warmth and begin a relationship, but their bond is met with hostility from four of Robert’s former pupils: Anthony Lecain, Audrey Nabindibo, and the twins Camille and Mélanie Guillot. These students react with anger and actively sabotage the engagement, driving a wedge between Robert and Claudine and setting Robert on a path of quiet, methodical revenge.

Nineteen years pass. Robert, now retired, spends his days plotting with the help of his mother, Huguette Poutifard, a tech-savvy woman who aids his schemes; Huguette is portrayed by Isabelle Nanty. The four former pupils have carved out high-profile careers of their own: Anthony Lecain has become a media-facing, renowned chef; Audrey Nabindibo has grown into a celebrated singer active in various causes; and the twins, Camille Guillot and Mélanie Guillot, enjoy widespread influence as popular internet personalities. Anthony’s restaurant becomes a target for Robert’s plans, and the diet of their ambitions is shaken when Robert, using an ultrasound instrument and the loyalty of a molosser dog named Brutus, causes the restaurant to close during a crucial visit by a food critic.

Robert then takes aim at Audrey by attempting to erase her online presence and reputation, an assault carried out during a high-profile concert. The plan is nearly successful, but Bouli—a former pupil who now serves as a security agent for the concert—unwittingly becomes a pivotal obstacle. Bouli introduces Audrey’s son to Robert, and upon learning the boy suffers from a serious disease, Robert experiences a transformation in his motives and seeks reconciliation with his former pupils.

To that end, he arranges a reunion with Anthony, Audrey, Camille and Mélanie, where he openly explains his actions and the reasons behind them. The sincerity of his apology moves the group, and they choose to forgive him, vowing to support Audrey’s son in his struggle with the illness. With the weight of the past lifting, Robert can finally enjoy his retirement alongside his mother, while his former pupils continue to prosper, now with a renewed appreciation for the teacher who once shaped their lives. Claudine, touched by Robert’s evident change, reaches out, and the two resume their long-interrupted relationship.

This renewed balance allows each character to move forward: Robert’s life settles into a quieter, more meaningful rhythm, his former pupils carry on with their careers, and a shared recognition blossoms that the past, though painful, helped forge a path toward redemption.
