In a tense opening, Colton West argues with director Darren and storms off in his car. An earthquake shakes the city as the Santa Monica Mountains erupt, hurling volcanic bombs and debris into the air and a massive, fire-spitting spider bursts from the car in front of him. Colton swerves and fights through traffic to escape the chaos.

Back at home, he tells his wife Olivia what he witnessed. He grabs a shotgun and heads off to find their son Wyatt, who had left the house under the pretense of a soccer game. The journey begins as he pursues the growing catastrophe.

Wyatt and his friends investigate the explosion and the spreading chaos. A sinkhole opens and spiders emerge, spitting fire. The teens flee to a warehouse to hide and regroup.

Eli is captured and killed by a spider while the group hides inside the warehouse. Jordan sustains severe burns and dies soon after, with baby spiders crawling from her as she falls.

Colton's car is damaged by a lava sinkhole, forcing him to improvise. He spots a crowded tour bus up ahead and uses a clever ruse to hijack the vehicle. A spider leaps onto the bus, Colton brakes, the spider falls off, and he drives the bus off the road, evacuating its passengers before the bus dissolves.

A spider slips in through the chimney at Olivia's house, and she shoots it dead. The army arrives to secure the area and she boards an army transport to join the effort.

Colton teams up with his film-world buddy Pirate Jack and they travel along the road toward safety. Their car is punctured by a lava vein, forcing a pivot to safety. Spiders flood from sinkholes and chase them into a museum.

In the museum, scientists theorize that the spiders were buried in magma millions of years ago and have resurfaced because the volcano is waking up. They conclude that the only way to stop the eruption is to kill the Queen spider.

Wyatt climbs to the warehouse roof to get a phone signal and texts Colton with his location. A spider claws its way into the shelter, escalating the danger.

The army truck carrying Olivia is overwhelmed by the arachnid invasion, and she hides under a fire blanket as the spiders breathe fire inside. The soldiers are killed, but Olivia manages to kill a spider and escape.

The museum siege continues as Colton escapes after Jack is killed. Olivia finds Colton and they resolve to rescue Wyatt.

Wyatt is pinned on the warehouse roof by a persistent spider. Olivia and Colton arrive and crush the creature beneath a passing Army truck.

Colton deduces that liquid nitrogen could halt the assault. They head to a nearby special effects store to regroup with film-set colleagues.

Colton and his team plant bombs around the Queen spider's underground chamber and trigger detonations as spiders spill from the sinkholes. The army fights to hold the line while the pressure builds.

Using a jet pack from the film set, Colton flies toward the queen and drops a bomb of liquid nitrogen into the spider's mouth. The strike neutralizes the creature and saves the city from the invasion.
