In 1555 rural England, Patience, a mute young woman, lives within a secluded community led by her controlling brother-in-law, David. As his vision of an idyllic life crumbles, David’s grip on power weakens. With the passage of the Egyptian Act, which mandates the immediate expulsion of Roma people and threatens those who assist them, David agrees to shelter an Egyptian family for a month in exchange for payment. When Patience begins an affair with one of the outsiders, she ignites a dangerous psychological conflict with David, leading to escalating violence.
