In the late 18th century Bundelkhand, the warrior monk known as the Gossain begins a ruthless hunt for Rahmat Khan, the Rohilla chieftain who looted royal treasure and killed many subjects. He rides through the countryside, narrowing his target to Rahmat Khan at Munerghah Fort. The pursuit is driven by vengeance and the desire to recover the looted wealth.

A tracker helps a rival locate the Gossain, leading to a clash where the Gossain defeats the rival and his subordinates but sustains wounds. The chase intensifies as the Gossain presses deeper into enemy territory. The stakes rise with each skirmish.

The Gossain reaches Rahmat Khan's palace, where a widow—Rahmat Khan's concubine—rescues him, feeds him, and offers to accompany him on the vengeance trail. Her presence adds a new dynamic to the pursuit, linking him to Rahmat Khan's inner circle. He grudgingly accepts her aid.

The Gossain does not trust her at first, but after she and her child are threatened, he kills one of the aggressors and allows the widow to accompany him toward the Yamuna River. Their alliance remains fragile as they press forward.

The tracker joins forces with the Marathas, agreeing to reveal Rahmat Khan's whereabouts in exchange for 20 gold coins. This alliance adds new military options to the pursuit and links the Gossain's fate to wider political currents.

The next morning, with the commander asleep, the captain and the tracker are joined by a band of Pindaris who eagerly enter the chase. The combined force advances toward Rahmat Khan and his convoy. The balance of power subtly shifts in favor of the pursuing force.

The Gossain and the widow meet with the Naga Guru, who urges him to abandon the vendetta and seek peace. The Guru's words challenge the warrior monk's long-held code and set up a moral conflict within the quest.

Six years earlier in Banda, the Gossain saved Rahmat Khan and his wife from a dacoit attack, revealing his intent to kill Rahmat Khan in the present. He slips away afterwards and cannot locate Rahmat Khan again, fueling the current pursuit.

The Gossain and widow locate Rahmat Khan and his convoy at night. He attempts an attack but is captured, and it is revealed that the widow has betrayed him. The loyalties here are uncertain, with trust in short supply.

The tracker leads the captain and the Pindaris to a meeting with Theodore Munroe, a British East India Company official, to purchase new guns. The greedy exchange foreshadows a broader collision between rival powers and the pursuit's stakes rise further.

That night, the Gossain attacks the British official while Rahmat Khan attempts to blind him, and a Maratha assault erupts in the camp. The combined assault disrupts the British-Rahmat Khan axis and intensifies the climactic confrontation.

Rahmat Khan attempts to flee with his son and followers by crossing the river on a platform boat, but the Gossain leaps into the water and disrupts the escape. A rocket from the tracker sets the boat ablaze and it explodes, leaving the widow and her child alive. The Gossain then reveals himself as Rahmat Khan's surviving younger brother, saved by the Naga Sadhus; the dying widow hands over her child to the Gossain, who rides away with his nephew as Rahmat Khan hangs, and the treasure sinks with the boat.
